Just thought I'd enter this contest [link]

The original was done in 2003 but submitted to DA in 2005

The new one was just finished

All art belongs to me!

I admittedly am not an art critic, but I am drawn to the vivid colors in the second piece. I think I like the "brush stroke" work in the first piece, but it lacks the "happy" vibe which really explodes from the second one. I'm not sure which I prefer from a technical standpoint, but I like the mood in the second one. It must have felt good to re-imagine this!!

I can't enter the contest anymore, but this has inspired me to revamp an old piece of mine! :D

It was actually quite fun . . . just to see what I could do with it now that I know how to use a computer better :giggle:

Exactly!! The piece I'm thinking of was a great idea, but was also one of my first semi-decent Poser renders... I think I'd been using the program for just a few weeks! Now that I'm better, I'd love to revisit it, the way you have here. Always room for improvement and change, right?

I honestly think you've gone backwards in your progress.

In what way? I'm actually very intrigued to hear your opinion since so few strangers have even come along to my humble little DA hideaway.

Well, the coloring in the first one seems (and this may just be because it looks like it was drawn with traditional media) better colored and shaded. It seems to have more attention payed to light source and the colors are blended pretty decently. In the second, it just looks like the generic "my first year with a tablet" type of coloring where every color/shade/etc. is completely soft. Basically, it went from somewhat unique and interesting to look at to "just another one of those" drawings. And I do means all of this in the least offensive way possible; it's not my goal to upset you or discourage you in anyway, so I apologize if I seem a little harsh.
