Rio de Janeiro was as beautiful as her father had always said it was. Crystal smiled as she surveyed the area from her high perch, the head of the Christ the Redeemer statue over looking the city. She didn't think she'd ever get tired of such a view; the lights of the city were magical reflecting off the water. If Adrian hadn’t trained her to use her abilities as a vampire she would never have managed it. Just more proof of how bad a master Anzelm was, he was more concerned about controlling his offspring than teaching them how to be what he’d turned them into.

When His Majesty had asked her where she'd planned to go, after Adrian deemed her properly educated, he'd seemed pleased by her decision. His one condition was that she had to check in with one of his trusted agents every week so that he knew where she was at all times. Vampire probation, to ensure she didn’t slip back into her murderous ways again. Crystal didn’t begrudge him that demand and was very dutiful about reporting in. The nice part was that she was left on her own for the rest of the time. She couldn't complain too much, part of her liked the peace of just sitting and enjoying the warm night air.  Although, lately she’d been finding herself bored.

"Perhaps I should take up a hobby," She muttered. The image of herself doing Macramé like her mother popped into her head and made her choke with laughter. She'd never be able to stand anything so sedentary.

Crystal had become solitary by choice after she'd left Adrian's watchful eyes, no one put any restrictions on who she could have contact with. She felt the need for some time away from being the luring, beguiling, dangerous creature she'd been made into. Well, other than the occasional "amateur night" at the local strip club. She just did that for fun and for the ability to say "No" to anyone who approached her. Certainly even Vampire King wouldn't begrudge her a few broken fingers if a guy got too forward, plus it was a fantastic way to get an easy meal if she was hungry.

It had taken a lot of nights alone to make her figure out what she really wanted. Unfortunately, what she wanted was out of reach and probably working his way through the female population until the next generation came of age. She snorted and rolled her eyes. Male vampires. The smile on her face was wistful as she mulled over her brief but complicated affair with Aidan Church. What was the song? Nat King Cole sang it. Something about being "just one of those things, too hot not to cool down"? She still regretted not being able to at least say goodbye.

She hopped down off the head of the statue and walked along the left arm so she could get an uninterrupted view from that side as well. This was the very first time in her life she wasn't being told what to do at every moment. As a result, she didn't know what to do with herself.

"You are so pathetic." She berated herself, "You're free and you don't even know what to do with that freedom." She sat down on the hand of the statue and looked out over the mountains and ocean.

The first thing she'd done, after watching Anzelm's satisfying demise and helping Mael with the others, was to visit where her parents had been buried. Adrian had surprised her, showing her where they were interred, until she realized he probably had been involved in the burial. She used a chunk of her sizable new bank account to erect a lovely marble memorial for them to replace the plain metal markers. It was only a small bit of closure, but it had helped.

Chuck had taken over all of the legal stuff, with Mael's assistance, and was now in charge of making sure that all of Anzelm's former offspring were taken care of. Crystal was being considered Anzelm's "mate" (which still made her laugh remembering the first time Mael had told her that), which gave her the authority to dispose of Anzelm's property. The clubs had been taken over by Mael with her blessing, which were then either sold off or remodeled for other uses. Crystal was just as happy never to have to step foot in the original Nite Fantazy again, and had asked that all of the horrid animal skins and heads be either donated to Sangre Exotica or taken by whoever wanted them. If she never saw another fur or glassy eyed taxidermied animal in her life she would be content.

Everything not bolted down (and some stuff that was) was either sold or given to Anzelm's offspring to start new lives. After the initial shock of Mael being a kind and compassionate ruler finally wore off, most of them were adjusting fairly well. She knew Mael was keeping an eye on some of them, Steven included, just to make sure they stayed in line and didn't try and follow in their sire's footsteps. Mael had made it clear that any hint of law breaking would be punished without hesitation.

Movement below the statue caught her eye and she quickly scrambled back across the arm before she was seen perching on the hand. She slid down the art deco robes on the back of the statue and was prepared to take off quickly when she was grabbed and pulled into a sudden kiss. Her assailant was large, warm, furry, and smelled of a strange combination of fish, vegetation, animal skins, and a familiar musk that made her gasp. The last scent made her halt her first instinct of throwing her attacker down the steep side of the hill.

"Aidan!?” She gasped when he finally released her lips and gave her a smug grin that made her heart skip a beat. "What are you doing here?"

She stared at him. He looked fuzzier than a Volven. He had a full beard which was blonde and curled at the ends much like the hair on his head. It was really hard to see his face; the facial hair, his tousled curls, the furry hood he had over his head, and the ever-present sunglasses hid all his features except the tip nose.  The only way she was sure it was him was from his scent, and even that was masked by the other smells coming from him.

"I happened to be in the neighborhood and sensed you were here." He grinned even broader, his teeth finally showing from under his blonde mustache. "It was a very pleasant surprise." He kissed her again, so hungrily and passionately that it made her breathless for a good minute after. He had her in a tight grip, refusing to let go even for a moment, as if he were afraid she'd disappear if he did.

Crystal tugged on his beard when he finally released her lips again. It was remarkably soft for facial hair. "So, Grizzly Adams, why are you in 'the neighborhood' and what is this all about?" She chuckled as she ran her fingers along his jaw and through the hair on his chin. "Is it some sort of disguise?"

He pouted at her, "It was the best way to keep my face warm. Antarctica is cold."

She stared at him in astonishment, "Antarctica? What were you doing there?!"

"Father and Uncle Mael decided that I needed to learn a lesson, so they dumped me at the South Pole with nothing but a blanket, knife, sewing kit, and book on survival. Said I needed to face 'real' hardship to appreciate what I had." He hugged her tightly and pouted, "They didn't even let me keep my cell phone."

Crystal couldn't decide whether she was amused or feeling sorry for Aidan, "So, what did you learn?" She looked up at him, aware that something didn’t smell very good and the closer she was to him the stronger it got. She tried to push a little away to avoid the scent without making seem like she didn’t want to be near him.

"That penguins are terrible food for vampires and seals are worse. That I HATE the color white and being wet and cold." He nuzzled against her hair, "I couldn't stop thinking about y - "

She interrupted his statement by kissing him again. She had known that she'd missed him; she was just surprised at how much now that he was actually physically present. Despite the nasty smell she was now sure was coming from his clothing, his scent was intoxicating; bringing back the memories of those intense two nights and a desire to repeat them. She murmured against his lips, "I've been thinking about you as well. How did you manage to get all the way here from Antarctica?"

His mustache tickled her nose as he answered back, apparently enjoying her closeness as much as she was enjoying his, "I walked. My cousin flew over my campsite and let me know I could head home. The only stipulation from my uncle was that I had to get there myself, without any help." He grinned, "Luckily, I know some things about magic and can get across water without depending on ice or boats. I decided to go along the east coast once I reached South America so I’d have a better chance of finding nourishment that was human. Imagine my surprise when I sensed you here." His hands reached down and squeezed her ass tightly, bringing her nose closer to the source of the offensive odor and making her wince.

"What IS this you're wearing?" She finally looked down at his clothing, which seemed to be a strange mix of furs that had been stitched together by someone who didn't really know what they were doing but managed to make it at least stay together somehow. "It really stinks."

Aidan looked down at the garment, "It does. It’s gotten worse since I’ve been in warmer weather." He gave her a naughty grin, "I suppose I should just strip it off." He tossed off the fur jacket, and then pulled off the shirt underneath, which seemed to be sewn patches of animal skin in different states of decay and smelled even worse than the top jacket.

Crystal took a step further back, "Ugh, that is nasty! You didn't even bother to tan them?" She waved her hand to fan the odor away. Aidan looked embarrassed.

"It was so damn cold it didn't really matter. I've never had to kill things and make clothes before. At least these stayed on, my previous attempts kept falling apart." He tossed the offending garments away, exposing his upper body fully, much to her delight. "There, is that better?"

She approached him again with a grin, "It's getting there." She put a hand on his stomach and then moved it slowly up to his chest, "But you still smell."

His naughty grin returned, "Well, perhaps you should just take me back to your place and give me a good scrubbing if I'm so dirty."

Crystal smirked back at him, "Aidan, you're dirty even when you're in the shower covered in soap."

He made that sexy rumbling purr of his, "Sometimes even dirtier in that case, I'm glad you remember." His hands returned to her ass and pulled her close.

She gave a throaty chuckle and ran her fingers through his hair, "I guess I should show some consideration for one of the King's Sentinels, since I'm trying to be on my best behavior. I can't just leave you here in this state." She chuckled and kissed Aidan again, "Follow me." She took his hand and started leading him down the hill and into the city to her apartment.

Aidan was quiet for a little while, “You cut your hair.”

“I did.” She looked back at him, “Don’t tell me you liked it long.”

“Actually, I’m glad it’s shorter. I won’t have to pick long black hairs out of my teeth if I do something like this.” He pulled her back toward him and nibbled teasingly at her neck.

She gasped and gripped his arm in reaction. She was beginning to wonder if they were ever going to make it back to her apartment at this rate. “Also nicer that it won’t get pinned under a soundly sleeping lug.”

He chuckled at her dig at him and released her to allow her to continue leading the way, although he walked more beside her than behind. "So, why are you here?"

"I've always wanted to see Rio de Janeiro, my father used to talk about it. So, after I was done learning how to be a proper vampire, I came here to sort myself out." She smiled at him and squeezed his hand. "I'm glad you decided to visit when you knew I was here."

"Well, I was worried about you. They refused to let me see you or tell me anything about how you were doing before they sent me off. What happened?" He looked concerned and squeezed her hand back.

He had been worried? Crystal smiled fondly at him, "His Majesty made me learn to be a vampire, with your father as a teacher."

Aidan gasped in false horror, "You had to study from the stone faced ice man?" He pulled her close again, his arm around her shoulders this time, "That's even worse than being in the snowy waste. How did you ever manage?"

Crystal was giggling now, "Aidan stop. It wasn't that bad, he'd been my teacher before. He's actually not as bad as he used to be."

Aidan gave her a horrified look, "You mean he was worse at some point?" He chuckled and nuzzled her neck again. "You smell delicious by the way."

“I'm afraid that you still really stink." She laughed and pushed his face away, "Bath first, then you can nibble all you like."

Aidan grabbed her hand and licked up her palm, giving her goose bumps as he nibbled on her fingers, "Are you going to join me?"

Crystal moaned softly, "You bet your sweet bippy."

"What?"

"Nothing . . ." Crystal giggled and smacked his ass. “Besides, you’ve been out in the wilds so long you’ve probably forgotten how to scrub yourself properly and your back smells just as bad as your front.”

Aidan grinned and looked back down at her, "So, you're not going to try and kill me again?"

"No," She leaned her head against him as they walked down the street, "Besides, I'm on probation and you're officially my superior."

"Damn right! I think I need to take advantage of my position!" The naughty grin was plastered to his face now.

She made a disapproving sound, "So unprofessional."

"But fun!" He snickered.

"Aidan, if your hand grips my butt any harder you're going to leave a mark."

"You've got mine just as hard."

"Touché."

"No, that's definitely a grope not just a touch." He snickered again.

She groaned in response, then was quiet until they got to the door of her apartment, "Are you sure we're not going to get in trouble? They were pretty clear about staying away from each other before."

"Where's the fun of staying out of trouble? Besides, I came looking for you, not the other way around. It would seem, in that case, that I'm just begging for trouble." He grinned toothily at her. “At I’m pretty sure there may be some begging involved if I remember correctly.”

She chuckled and opened the door for him, "Aidan, you're incorrigible."

"Then you shouldn't incorrige me." He pulled her inside and kicked the door closed, "Things might happen."

She smiled at him, "What kinds of things?"

"The kinds of things that might make it very difficult for you to ever get rid of me." He kissed her hard and started removing her clothes for her, whispering promises of a very long and wonderful time together.

Crystal got the sense that he meant a lot longer than just a few nights, and it made her shudder in excitement as she led him to the bathroom once they were completely naked. Whatever happened, she was happy right now. That was something she would make sure never to forget.

*******

Here we are at the true end of the story . . . not the best writing here, but I'm a little rushed and very tired. If you see anything really blatantly bad, tell me and I'll fix it ^^;

As for more about Aidan and Crystal? Maybe, it depends upon if I get inspired again. For right now, I have no clue where to go from her

Thanks again to :icondestinyfall: for letting me do this. :tighthug: I had fun with your characters :giggle: You're welcome to have them back now though ;)

Let's see . . . things mentioned in this that might not be common knowledge:

Christ the Redeeemer Statue in Rio de Janeiro:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_t…

The song Crystal refers to by Nat King Cole: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVUGKQ…

Grizzly Adams: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Life… www.grizzlyadams.net/index.php… (Crystal's just making a comment on Aidan's rather furry appearance, although I doubt his beard is THAT long :XD:)

"You bet your sweet bippy.": A catch-phrase made famous by Rowan and Martin's Laugh-in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rowan_%2… I don't know what it means, other than it's used to equal "Oh hell yes" or something like that :giggle: Edit Found this explanation that I rather like answers.yahoo.com/question/ind… :XD:

Previous: Dance In The Dark Chpt14Crystal would have asked more questions but right at that moment a yell came from behind them in the hall, followed by the sound of rushing feet.
"You're not welcome here!" It was Steven, carrying his Bowie knife and followed by Anzelm's "Enforcers". Crystal rolled her eyes. Idiots. They had no idea what they were about to face.
Aidan grinned in anticipation and readied himself. Adrian gave a resigned sigh and pushed Crystal behind him as he addressed the approaching group. "If you do not back off I will be forced to injure and possibly kill you. Retreat now. My business is not with you, nor do I wish any harm to any of you."
Crystal disagreed with Adrian's statement, but kept her mouth shut. Aidan, however, could not stay silent, "But if you don't we'll be more than willing to teach you a thing or two." He grinned confidently.
Crystal rolled her eyes, hoping he was recovered enough to back up that boast and curious to see how he fought when he wasn’t holding back.
